The American Association of University Professors - UI CHAPTER

News & Events

Our Mission

Founded in 1915, the American Association of University Professors (AAUP) is the country’s largest faculty-led organization. For generations, the AAUP has promoted the basic principles - academic freedom, shared governance, institutional independence, and research for the common good - that have enabled American higher education to flourish. The AAUP UI Chapter has worked for that same mission on UI’s campus since 1923.

The AAUP UI Chapter is a big tent, with room for multiple perspectives and experiences. We celebrate the intellectual, political, and identity-based diversity of our members. Everyone has a seat at the table, aligned in our values of academic freedom and mutual respect.

Join the AAUP

Who is eligible? Anyone who teaches or researches at the University of Iowa can join, including tenured, tenure-track, non-tenure track, post-docs and adjunct faculty. We also welcome the membership and participation of emeritus faculty.

Prospective members are encouraged to reach out for information about the chapter. We also welcome ideas about programming, social and other events.
